13u Wins Veterans USSSA Tournament




AZ CLASH 13u Team Takes Championship

AZ C.L.A.S.H. (Character, Leadership, Attitude, Stature & Heart) participated in the USSSA Veterans Memorial tournament this past weekend at Big League Dreams and Victory Lane Sports Complex.
The 13U team coached by Executive Director Shane Hesse and Assistant Coach Dennis Murphy went 4-1 over the weekend. Hesse stated “The boys exemplified everything that the AZ C.L.A.S.H. stands for, they played hard and showed tremendous respect. The 13U team is made up of players from Gilbert & Tempe.
Gilbert resident Tony Pomonis was named Tournament MVP by his team mates. Pomonis attends Higley Elementary School and is the son of Keith and Aimee Pomonis.

Daniel Casey of the 14u CLASH Placed 3rd Nationally


Daniel Casey just returned from Hershey, PA where he competed in the Standing Long Jump at the National Hershey Track and Field Meet on Saturday, August 1st. He finished 3rd in the Country with a jump of 8'10.5". He enjoyed the event which ran July 30 through August 2nd. He visited Hershey's Chocolate Factory, Hershey Amusement Park, and met Carl Lewis who was on hand to inspire the young athletes. He was one of 7 competitors from Arizona ages 8 to 14. According his chaperon, Daniel's 3rd place finish is the highest for an Arizona athlete in the past 10 years of this national competition. Coach Contreras Named Coach of the Year


Gilbert Resident Named Coach of the Year

Daniel Contreras, of Gilbert has been named Coach of the Year for the Arizona C.L.A.S.H. ( Character, Leadership, Attitude, Stature and Heart) Coach Contreras is a native Arizonan. He and his lovely wife, Laura, live in Gilbert with their three children, Matt, Ryan, and Jordyn. He attended Red Mountain High School and played semi-professional ball with the Milwaukee Brewers Organization, as a second baseman. After baseball, he attained his Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology from the University of Phoenix and is currently working as a Facilities Engineer for the Boeing Company. He began coaching while still in high school with his younger brother's little league teams and has been at it ever since. Coach Contreras specializes in young player development, but enjoys working with all ages. He is always available for one-on-one instruction and thoroughly enjoys teaching the fundamentals of baseball or what he considers "the greatest game ever played". --30—

Speed Training Seminar

Baseball Speed Training Seminar, AZ C.L.A.S.H. College Prep and Pro Scout Organization is offering strength training seminars for $480 for C.L.A.S.H, members and $600 for non- C.L.A.S.H. members beginning June 9. Sessions are held at Phoenix College Track and conducted by Phil Habib. The baseball speed training seminar is a 16 session program spread over eight weeks. Players train two days per week with the goal of improving their performance in the 30 yard and 60 yard sprints. To register contact Shane Hesse at shanehesse@azclash.com.

Sessions are held at Phoenix College in the weight room and conducted by Phil Habib. Players will go through a position specific training program. Sessions are held at Phoenix Country Day School. Players ages 5-18 will go through a bi-weekly position-specific training program including: pitching, hitting, catching, infield and outfield. Little League Over and Travel Baseball Begins


The AZ C.L.A.S.H. is beginning a developmental travel baseball team for boys 8 and under. This is a perfect opportunity for young boys to continue playing baseball while Little League has finished. Tryouts are underway and the season will begin August 15.
This is a great atmosphere for the kids and their development; ran by Executive Director Shane Hesse of AZ C.L.A.S.H. There are low costs involved and booster club opportunities are available for parents needing scholarships.
